Vaccination

Haemophilus influenzae b

The vaccine against Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) is routinely administered in most countries. Immunization usually begins at two months of age. Primary vaccination series should be given at months 2-4-6, with one booster twelve months after the third dose, usually by the age of eighteen months.

Except for children younger than six years of age, the relevance of this vaccine in travel medicine needs to be established. Nevertheless, all children who are not up to date with this vaccine should be offered it. The Hib vaccine is often given as a combined preparation with diftheria-tetanus-pertussis-polio components (DTPaHib or DTPaHibIPV)
